We are a thriving group of about 30 girls led by Alison, Sarah and
Louisa, with the help of Rebecca and Lizzie, our Young Leaders and
former Guides, and Doug our Unit Helper.
We liaise closely with the Chellaston Brownies, taking part in one of
their meetings from time to time, and entry from Brownies to Guides is
automatic.
We aim to go camping at least twice a year, our favourite sites being
Pax Hoh near Carsington Water and the Scout Activity Centre at Trent
Lock. Every 5 years we take part in Peak, the huge international camp
held in the grounds of Chatsworth House. We have regular sleepovers in
the Guide hut or in a leader's house.
Outdoor activities recently have included cycling and a night hike at
Carsington, sailing at Swarkestone, canoeing and other water activities
at Trent Lock, snow tubing at Swadlincote, swimming, rounders and
football. Recently several Guides have gained qualifications and badges
for canoeing and sailing.
Indoors we follow the Go For It! programme supplied by the Guide
Association, which involves activities led by the Guides themselves on a
patrol basis. Recent topics have included Fashion, Rights and
Responsibilities and Green issues. Other activities include cooking,
crafts, dancing and yoga, quizzes, games and parties. We take part in
local and Guiding events such as Thinking Day, the Remembrance Sunday
parade, the carol service and sports competitions. We have raised money
for Leukaemia Research and at Christmas filled shoe boxes for a local
shelter.
We are looking forward to celebrating 100 years of Guiding in 2010 with
celebrations locally and nationally.
If you are a girl aged between 10 and 14 do come and join us. We meet on
a Monday night from 7-8.30pm. We have a very short waiting list.
Alison, Doug, Louisa & Sarah.
